Were you...?

[He's not exactly surprised, seeing as Shigure was there while some stuff was apparently going down...]

Unfortunately, I don't have much context for that either, at least not yet.

Yeah, I guess I'll remember more about it in time.

The other thing I remembered is "daemons". They're basically monsters, but some of them used to be people or animals and because of "malevolence", they became daemons. Don't ask me what "malevolence" is, because I've got no idea.

[He doesn't even really sound exasperated, he's just accepted that this is his lot in life. He remembers something and then has no context for it.]

...I've remembered fighting monsters before. It was one of the first things I recalled, I believe I told you about it.

I didn't know that they were previously people, however.

[That's...it's not sitting well with him.]

Yeah. I don't know how many of the monsters were people, but that's something I remembered. I figured it'd be good to let you know about that.

Morgrim. My cat companion. She's uh...

[He gestures for a moment, like he's trying to figure out how to explain it.]

She's already here? She just kind of...

[You'll hear a voice after a moment, one that's definitely not Shigure's.]

Honestly, Shigure. This is a bit embarrassing to watch.

[And just like that, Morgrim appears on the floor at Shigure's feet. She's very much a chubby white cat, and she looks at Arthur for a moment before speaking again, although the voice just seems to come from her somehow. Don't ask questions we don't have the answers to.]

It's a pleasure to meet you, Arthur.

Uh. Yeah. So this is Morgrim!

I... I see...

[k-kitty...]

It's nice to meet you as well, Morgrim.

[...he has no idea what to do with this so you know what, he's just going to roll with it. this is fine.]

I would've left her at home, but she insists on going everywhere with me.

[She looks up at Shigure for a moment, then looks back at Arthur like can you believe this bullshit. She doesn't argue any, however.]

Only people on the network can see her, I was a little worried about that for awhile, but my other cats don't even know she exists.

...I suppose that's a good thing.

[...Just. Let him kind of stare at Morgrim for a moment because oh god she's cute what does he do with this- ]

...May I pet you.

[It is simultaneously the flattest and most overinvested question ever asked, good fucking god.]

[Shigure's going to try real hard not to laugh, but Morgrim ignores him and absolutely considers the question a serious one.]

You may. Do try to be gentle.

[She'll come on over and sit down in front of you, you have permission to pet!]

See, I keep telling you you'd be great with cats! Unfortunately, Morgrim's not one I'm adopting out.

[He'll stop petting Morgrim after a while, though; no sense in overdoing it, though he is pleased that she let him.]

I do have something else to discuss with you, regarding things I've remembered. I don't know how much it involved you, but I do know it greatly affected the world we came from and so I believe you deserve to know.

[Good man. She'll nod a bit before disappearing, back into Shigure since her part in the conversation is over. He sits up a little at Arthur's words, since this sounds serious.]

Yeah, of course. What did you remember?

[It kind of...takes him a moment? He isn't entirely sure how to put this into words now that he's started, but...]

...In my past life, I was very dedicated to trying to save people. To heal them from whatever agony they were currently facing, to cure the world of sadness and pain. To alleviate their suffering by any means possible, even if the method to do so was cruel or unwanted.

I found a way to do it, eventually. It was something called the Suppression; it involved awakening a god and using its power to seal away all of humanity's emotions. Positive, negative, everything - it would remove all emotion from the equation, leaving everyone governed by pure reason alone.

[He glances away after a moment.]

...I know it sounds unrealistic. Impossible; ridiculous, even. But I've remembered the ceremony and the god Innominat, and the immediate effect that came over people, and I...

[...]

...I...actually succeeded. In doing that to people.

[Oh, wow. Shigure's quiet for a moment as he processes that.]

It does sound pretty crazy, but I can't imagine you'd lie to me about something like that. It also sounds like it'd be pretty difficult to remember something like that. Even if it's what you wanted - and what you thought would help - it's something that's hard to come to terms with now, isn't it?

[...this is A Lot, are you okay...]

[He's tempted, as usual, to avoid the question; after all, he shouldn't be relying on anyone else, not when it's his job to be relied on. But...]

...It is, yes. I don't...understand it, I don't know why...

[He stops there, though it isn't necessarily because he wants to, it's through an inability to continue; he still isn't maintaining eye contact at all, this is...it's a bit much, okay.]

[He's quiet again, trying to figure out how to handle this. If he's perfectly honest, he's supremely wigged out by what he's just heard, and wondering how the hell someone like Arthur could have done something like that in his past life. But for as strange and worrying as he finds it, it must be a thousand times worse for Arthur.]

I'm not going to deny that it sounds bad. No sense in trying to do that. But we don't know everything about what happened yet. We'll both probably get some more memories about it soon, and we can compare what we've learned and see if it'll shed any more light on it.

[It's not really comforting and he knows it, but he's not really sure what else to say.]

[He nods a bit at that, though he's still keeping his gaze averted; whether he was going to have more of an answer to that or not is difficult to say, though, given that he's quite suddenly gone weird and still, spending a good few moments just kind of intently staring at the blank space in front of his face.

After a moment whatever gripped him so suddenly seems to leave him, and he'll glance up at Shigure again once he seems to have his bearings.]

...Malevolence. It was...malevolence that you mentioned earlier, wasn't it?
