[He's really tempted to ask, but... Well, there is a monster to deal with. You're spared for now, at least!!

Shigure swings the sword a bit as though to get a feel for it; it's a bit heavier than he was expecting, but it shouldn't be too bad. The crab worm larva skitters closer, launching itself at Shigure once it gets close.]

Whoa, hey, cut me some slack, I'm new at this!

[Of course it isn't going to listen, and Shigure just kind of... flails the sword for a moment while he tries to figure out how to use the damn thing. He finally does manage to land a hit; it's nowhere near strong enough to take out the monster, but it's a surprisingly clean swipe for someone who has no idea what he's doing. Shigure backs up a bit, looking far too proud of himself for that.]

Hah, okay, like that. Got it.

[And... there goes the monster, burying underground. Uh. Bye???]

[It'll be back eventually; they do that.]

You're doing better than you could be, at any rate.

Thanks. It's not as easy as it looks! The sword's got more weight to it than I would've expected—

[And there it is, popping up near Shigure to try to take a bite out of Shigure's ankles. His default is to kick the thing in the face, only to follow up with a downward slash that... misses and hits the ground just beside the thing, but there it goes again, burying its way underground to avoid getting smacked again.

I'll get it with practice, I'm sure.

[Look out, this time it'll pop up near you.]

[I mean, he could do something useful here, but why do that when he can just. move.

You're going to get an idea that his speed and reflexes...aren't quite human, but he's going to get out of the way of the thing either way.]

Well, I'm not going to stop you from getting practice in.

[...Whoa. If that's how fast you can move... that's really impressive. Would he even be able to land a hit on you?

He kind of wants to find out, but now really isn't the time. That's fine, he'll come after the monster, ready to try again.]

[The crab worm larvae spits some kind of purple acid at Shigure, but he's able to dodge most of it and get in close. The sword comes down another time, this time succeeding in hitting and severely damaging the thing. It starts to bury its way underground again, and he brings the sword down once more.]

Oh no you don't! I'm not done with you yet!

[That hit does it in, and the monster quits moving.

Shigure wonders if he should have a reaction that isn't excitement, but hey, look at what he did!!]

All right! That was fun!

[...Oh ouch, right, he kind of got hit by the acid; it's not too bad of an injury or anything, but it did catch his left arm, just below the elbow.]

Ah, shit. Guess I was being a little careless.

...I keep first aid supplies in the car, should you need them.

[...you'll probably be fine? but.]

Might be good to slap something on it when we get back.

[He moves his arm a bit to test it before shrugging.]

It's not like there's pain or anything, it should be fine!

[With that said, he'll keep heading out.]

C'mon, let's see if we can find another one!

If you insist.

[Let's go, then.]

[We won't have to go too far before we run into another one. It pops out of the ground suddenly and spits more acid in our direction; Shigure's no faster than your ordinary human, but he's expecting it this time and he manages to get out of the way. He also charges toward the crab worm larvae, and it scuttles toward him to try to take a bite out of him.

While he's valiantly doing battle with a weak monster, you'll probably hear the sounds of several others - some are above ground and some below, but they're definitely coming in this direction.]

[Well, that'll get the handgun out, at least; sorry to interrupt your valiant battle over there with gunshots, hopefully they won't distract you too much.]

I do hope you don't mind the assistance; it looks like it's brought friends.

[It does get him to look up, but he doesn't immediately turn his attention back to the monster. Instead he just kind of... blanks out for a moment, which nearly gives the thing enough time to take a bite out of him.

Unfortunately for the crab worm larvae, Shigure is back into action quickly enough, and he brings his sword down hard on the monster, cleaving it in two. There's no more hesitation or awkward fumbling; looks like he's got it worked out.]

Yeah, no prob! If you need any help, I think I'll be a lot more useful now!

[Admittedly the sword is much shorter than what he's used to, but he can make it work.]

[Oh, good.]

Good to know that this was actually of some use, then - feel free to do as you please with them.

[I mean, he's personally going to be kicking one of them into next week? Or just into the afterlife, um. Good lord.]

[Goddamn, you can kick things so hard they die?? That's kind of cool...]

Hah, will do!

[Anyway, he'll take out one of the others! His speed and strength haven't really increased, but the sword isn't too heavy for him to use properly so he's able to swing it and catch the other monster off-guard, taking it out easily.

The last one buries underground, probably in an attempt to flee, but Shigure drives his sword down into it before it can escape. And with that, that takes care of these monsters!]

It's incredible how easy it comes to you once you get started! That was really cool!

[Maybe he should have some feelings about killing, but nah. This is so awesome??? Oh my god.]

[Eh, they're just monsters.]

Glad to see that you're having a good time. My first experience with it was a bit less controlled than this, but I was having an enjoyable enough time with it before too long.

Yeah? Did you figure it out mid-fight or something?

[Like. An actual fight. One that doesn't involve having someone with guns to back you up in case things go south.]

Yes, exactly.

So what happened? You get attacked by monsters or something?

Yes. They attacked the city, at a time when none of us were prepared for it. A friend of mine and I were trapped indoors with something particularly large at one point, and all we had to fend it off were a baseball bat and a boat oar.

...Seriously? How the hell did you guys survive? Did you remember just because the situation was so shitty?

In that instance, we threw things at it to draw its attention and we ran. Lured it outside so that others could help us handle it. There were children in the vicinity, and we agreed that it would be better for it to pursue us than them.

I got back my memories of how to use guns outside. There were flying monsters out there, it took me a while to remember what I was doing with firearms but it eventually came back.

Whoa, crazy. It's a damn good thing you remembered, though I think I'll take this way over that one. Even I'm not that reckless!

Well, it's not as though we had much of a choice but to be reckless at that point.

My husband does tell me often that I need to be less reckless, however. Just as a general principle.

Taking a near-stranger out to learn how to use a weapon by fighting monsters might be a little reckless, yeah!

[It's obviously a joke, though...]

I'm sure your husband'll keep an eye on you next time anything crazy like that happens. Though I guess that'll happen whenever we head on up to Magatus.

He worries a bit less about me nowadays; I can't exactly be killed by most normal means anymore. Monsters and whatever we find in Magatus included.

What, you got invincibility or something from your past life? That's pretty handy.

It'll be good to have you along for the ride when we head on up there. Who knows what we'll find? Probably nothing good, so the more help we've got, the better.
